Private pilot course

The Private Pilot Course is your gateway to the skies and the foundation of your aviation journey.

Designed for aspiring pilots with little to no prior experience, this course provides comprehensive training in both flight and ground instruction. You’ll learn the essential skills needed to safely and confidently operate a aircraft, preparing you for recreational flying, future certifications, or even a career in aviation.

Throughout the course, you’ll progress through structured stages of training—starting with basic maneuvers, advancing to your first solo flight, and culminating in cross-country navigation. You’ll also prepare for and complete the FAA Written Knowledge Test, followed by the FAA Oral and Practical Check ride Exam with an authorized examiner.

When You Can Fly:

  • Day and night

Weather Conditions:

  • Good weather (Visual Flight Rules only)

Minimum Flight Hours:

  • 40 hours


Training Phases & Requirements

 

Initial Training:

  • 3 stages

  • ~25 flight hours + 30 ground school hours

First Solo Flight:

  • Solo within 25 miles of home airport

  • More privileges granted with experience

Cross-Country Flights:

  • Flights over 50 miles

  • First with instructor, then solo

FAA Written Exam:

  • Multiple-choice, computer-based knowledge test

FAA Oral & Practical Exam:

  • Ground and in-flight test with FAA examiner (DPE)

Timeline:

  • Approx. 6–8 months

Total Flight Hours:

  • Around 50–65 hours

Solo Flight

The ensemble programs in Sky Dream, both instrumental and choral offer numerous performance opportunities to all students despite their level of expertise.
